ABS

Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene.

Absorption

Applies to immersion in a fluid for a definite period of time. It is usually expressed as a per cent of the weight of the dry pipe.

Accessible

When applied to a fixture, connection, appliance or equipment, means having access thereto, but which first may require the removal of an access panel, door or similar obstruction. "Readily accessible" means direct access without the necessity or removing any panel, door or similar obstruction.

Backfill

That portion of the trench excavation which is replaced after the piping has been laid-the material around and above the pipe up to the original earth line.

Cadmium

A white metallic element that looks much like tin.Its alloys help reduce friction and offer great resistance to fatigue. It is softer then zinc and resists corrosion better, and often replaces zinc in galvanizing iron and steel.

Dampen

To check or reduce; to deaden vibration.

EccentricFitting

Fittings whose openings are offset allowing liquid to flow freely.

Faucet Nut

The nut that screws onto the shaft of the faucet to hold the faucet in place.

Galvanized Iron

Iron covered in a thin coating of zinc, which resists rust.

Hacksaw

A hand held saw with a narrow blade set in a bow used primarily for cutting metal. Types: close quarter, pistol grip.

Icebox

An insulated cabinet or box having a compartment for ice and used for refrigeration.

Jacket

The outer casing or shell of a heater or storage vessel.

Key Hole Saw

A hand held long bladed saw set into a pistol grip for cutting out or around objects.

Labeled

Equipment or materials bearing a label of a listing agency.(Check the term "Listed" for meaning.)
